10/6/09

10/6/2009
Very good start to the day. Well with the exception of the rain. Pouring down rain. But we had already decided to leave for the day. It was my day.

We got soaking wet as we exited the door. Still after all these years there are no gutters or drain spouts. But the Shankster anticipated it and since it was my day, he grabbed a large towel for me to cover up with as I walked out the door. Would have helped more if I had been smart enough to hold it over my entire body and not just the front of my face. Yes I am more stupid today than yesterday.

And I have heard of an umbrella, but as I stated earlier, I am stupid and it was in the car....both of them.

We had a couple of coupons for a free dinner and decided we would use it today, since it was my day I picked it. Just as I picked what I wanted to do yesterday also....the day before my birthday.

Yesterday we went fishing. I would have loved to go to Monroe Docks, but a bit farther than I really wanted to drive and I wanted to make this drive today for the freebie lunch. So we just went to the park and fished the dock there. We had went the day before and that is when I made the decision I wanted to fish the day before my birthday and I even picked out the spot I wanted to fish. I was sure if we got there early enough we could get the spot, as most everyone else has boats to fish in. And besides its the day before my birthday so everyone should cooperate.
They didn't. We got there and there were 4 people fishing just the place where I wanted to drop my line. No one was at the dock, which usually everyone is at the dock and there is no other place to fish, but they are lowering the water and there was this one place........
Whatever.

I was going to make it work so we settled on the dock. Good decision as we caught so many fish one right after the other. No matter where we put our line in at we caught a fish. The Shankster was catching Wipers and Striped Bass along with a few bass. I was catching mainly Bluegill and quite good sized ones too. I did catch 2 Bass, one was 18 inches and the second just 17 inches. We didn't keep any. Which seem to frustrate some of the other fishermen who were fishing around us. We just wanted to have fun and did just that.

The Shankster said he thought I caught my weight in Bluegill, and lemme tell you, that is a Butt load of fish. :)

So today we went for the freebie lunch. It was at a place we would not normally go to eat but it was actually good and it was fun too. It would have been a nicer day if my glasses had not broken. I was wearing them and all of a sudden my lens popped out of my frame. Whatever.
I have had nothing but problems with these frames since getting them in February of this year.

I had sat on my original glasses (remember butt is quite large) and broken those in February. I have had them since the latter part of 2003 as I had sat on the glasses I had then too.......hmmmm, weird.

Anyhow, I went to a place since it was open on the weekend and had no problem at all with my glasses til now. So I decided in February of this year to go to the same place and get new ones.
I knew I needed some bifocals anyway so might as well get on with it.

Picked out some frames and decided to get prescriptions sunglasses as well, it is so hard to get clip-ons anymore to fit your glasses. Got them the next day. I have had no problem with my sunglasses whatsoever. But my regular ones, I have had to go back just about 2 times a month since to get an "adjustment" on those just so I didn't go insane. It has been ridiculous. Every time I would go I would get someone different who had a different take on how to "adjust" my frames. My right eye would literally feel as though it was going to explode every time I put my glasses on in the morning. I wouldn't even wear them at nite I would wear my old ones....broke and all...After a month they finally rechecked my eyes and decided my right eye was a "tad" off. So they changed the lens. It still didn't feel just right. It took forever every time I would put on my glasses to get my eyes adjusted to them. Sometimes it would never happen. They didn't change the sunglass lens. So every time I would go from regular glasses to sunglasses and vise versa, my right eye felt like it was going to explode.
I went back so many times and about 3 weeks ago I went and asked for them to change my sunglass lens to the same as the regular lens strength but this guy said that was not the problem.

They had twisted my frames so much, I started to feel as though my eyes were twisted. I couldn't see most days but didn't even want to deal with going in there. "B" had taken me out to eat last weekend for my birthday and I had a wonderful time but I had to take my glasses off in the restaurant the entire time as I felt like I was going to freak out it was so bad.

So today when the lens popped out I thought this is it, I am going in and asking them to just put my lens back to where it was the first time. I honestly felt this was the problem, along with the cheap ass frames, because as soon as they would do their adjusting (twisting of frame) I would no sooner get home and it would be back as it was or worse.

So as usual I got a different sales person. I explained my situation from the beginning. I told her what I wanted them to do and I knew I was going to have to pay for it. I didn't want to but knew I would have to as it has been 8 months.
All she focused on was the lens that had popped out. Said all I needed was a tightened screw.
I said I knew that was the remedy for that problem but my problem goes way beyond that and I had never had this much problem with a new pair of glasses. Also the color on the frames was pealing off in several places. I didn't think after 8 months that should be happening either.

She then let me know there was a certain "care & maintenance" frames needed. What? Like I don't know that? Hey lady I have had glasses for over 44 years, and usually every frame I have I have for at least 6 years or more!
But I didn't say that to her....only in my mind.

After what seemed like hours, they said they would suggest since it had been so long I get another eye check. $85 then I could start again. They would replace the frames if I wanted and make the new lens according to the new prescription, but anything over $100 I had to pay for. Everything in the store was at least $30 over $100. I didn't feel like this was going to be a good thing for me but bent over and said ok. Of course they didn't have an appointment until the next day. So on the day after my birthday, we went. I was actually up most of the nite worrying about it. Why do I let some people walk all over me? I know why I don't say my food is bad, I don't want the cook spitting in my food.(yeah I watch too much tv) but why couldn't I stand up for myself and what I felt the problem was with the glasses? What, did I think they would spit on the lens after making them?

So I decided to walk in there and tell them if they were going to replace the frames I wanted them to just put in the first prescription in them, that way both my glasses had the same strength. Easy fix I thought. Also by getting different frames, Hopefully I could find some sturdier ones.
Of course I got the same lady and she still thought the screw was the whole problem and even took the time to put a new screw in and said I would just need new lens and it would all be fine. She even had the nerve to say I looked better in round frames, which is what I had and all I could find was rectangular frames. She never even saw me in my frames. So I wondered about that comment. I didn't really care at this point. She kept telling me I needed to just use my frames. It was only the screw.

NO, I said. I picked out new frames. Told them I was not going to see the doc and get my eyes rechecked. I said if I have the same problem then shame on me, I will just go to another eye doc and start all over then.

Got my new glasses. They are great. I can see. My eye doesn't feel like it is going to explode just by putting them on. I can transfer from sunglasses to regular without a problem. I just had to pay $30.

Kinda late, but a nice birthday present...being able to see.
