Friday

Got a lot done in the days Homie was gone, but since he came home on Wednesday I haven't gotten much accomplished. Maybe I am just exhausted from working so hard to get things done before he got back and just need the rest. I did nothing all day yesterday...I mean I don't think I did more than just sit and stare for the most of the morning. I wanted to paint but just couldn't do it. We decided to get some much needed groceries in instead and I had to sit while putting them into the fridge! Now that's tired!
I think we were stunned when Homie came in on Wednesday and actually did not notice anything as he walked in and through the biggest changed room. I mean when you change the walls from white to brown? But as he walked by us and into his room, we just smiled at each other, and then we heard him say..wow it sure smells good in here! Smells good? Ok, I'll take that. And we did...we took that as a good thing and ran with it and showed him all the changes we made to the two rooms. And he actually seemed to like it all and said nothing to the contrary or nothing sarcastic. WOW....I could not believe it. We went to bed at peace. Wondering if he really did like it all, or has he read my blog and decided to not be a smarty pants? Who cares? We made the change and we like it and are happy and he seems to be ok. Now we can live a little like we want or are used to...in a small sort of way.
Yippee.
And now Ammeg and Neel can come and visit with us in a room that smells good. (according to Homie)

Looks better too.

I had more painting to do to the trim today but got sidetracked with a surprise call from my BFF, Ammeg. And it was a surprise, as we never call each other much only email and in the nine years I have been emailing her, I think I can count the number of times we have spoken on the phone on one hand......maybe two.
After the call I put up my paint and decided to try at it again tomorrow. I had other things to do. (per Ammeg) We have lived on no breakfast or lunch and only bologna sandwiches since Homie left last Friday as we were so busy we didn't think to eat until we were tired and ready for bed. (but sadly I don't think it helped me to lose any weight!!!)
So today we got to treat ourselves (and Homie) to a pizza and bread sticks at Pizza Hut. Man was it even more yummy than I can say. I think I will remember this pizza for a long time to come! (Thanks to Ammeg & Neel)

More Torture

OK ,so Homie is gone for a few days again and Shankie and I are trying to finish up some much needed repairs around the house. First off we finished the ceilings and they look great (compared to before) and then we used up the paint we already had on the trim. We bought some paint for the two rooms and decided to paint them both the same color. Not my first choice but to cut costs and besides it would take more than just paint to make this all better...just trying to make it easier on the eyes and my sanity. So my next question...just how hard is it to decide on a color and have it actually BE that color when you are buying paint? GEEZ...a whole lot harder than we thought. (which is what we found when redoing the front door!!!) I guess for the last few years when painting interior we have just settled for White or Antique white...which is nice but we used all that up on the trim! So we decided on a color and after texturing the walls tried out the new paint we bought which was something Sand...kinda an earthy color..which is what we were going for, Yeah...right...it was PINK! I mean I kept rolling on the paint thinking..WHAT? AND I HATE PINK. Not that there is anything wrong with pink...I just HATE PINK.
After contemplating on it for a while and me just saying Heck I would be happy with anything at this point, even COCOA BROWN, Shank had had enough and just drove to the nearest hardware and got some brown paint...Yes I said BROWN. I don't think it has an official color name, he just said give me some sandy, brown, earthy color that does not have any RED OR PINK in it, and the guy mixed him up something that he thought looked fine in the store. Well we got it and we are done with that room and decided it was a bit too dark for the kitchen...but what to do? We were NOT going to got buy more paint(as we are paint rich right at this moment)...so...what do you get when you mix Pink paint with Brown paint?
You get the paint that is on my kitchen wall!
So now I am pulling up the quarter round or shoe molding..whichever you call it...I always knew it as quarter round and "B" and I got into a lengthy discussion on that as he knew not what I was talking about until I could show him and he said it was called Shoe molding?
Whatever.
So we are getting some cheap carpet too and have to have the old carpet pulled up and have the quarter round pulled up as well. What ever happened to the carpet guys doing that upon installation? I remember when we got new carpet at our other house and it was not that long ago and at the same place, I might add (so I am not TOO OLD AND SENILE) and they pulled up the old carpet and quarter round and hauled it away. Anyhow I am pulling this up and it is put in there hard...KIM did we put this in that hard when we laid this carpet oh so long ago? Remember that? I only remember the PIZZA we had after and how good it tasted and me and Syd staying up all night!

But anyhow, Geez what were we thinking? There are staples and nails in this thing so hard I am on my 4th hour of getting it pulled up! Oh well mom loved it and that is why we did it.
And I was hoping to not break the quarter round so not to have to buy new..(no the carpet guys won't put any back down) But doesn't look like that's going to happen...so after a much needed break and a Mountain Dew, I guess I have to get back to it.
I am sitting here wondering what if anything could make this day go by any better and I see a bottle of Whiskey sitting here...(no we don't drink) but Shankie had a bad bad toothache since Friday and last night was the worst and so I said if Aunt Lissie were here she would say, pour you a capful of Whiskey and hold it on that sucker and you will sleep all night. We found a bottle in Dad's drawer and opened it and guess it worked cause he slept all night!
(don't worry I called dentist first thing this morning and he as already been)so no more whiskey tonite...(haven't told him that yet..haha :)
But I wonder...... if whiskey tastes good with good old Mountain Dew?

Do not adjust your monitors......

This is yet another hole of antique electrical work that Shankie has decided to put a new light fixture into. I dunno...I just think he loves to torture himself.... :)

The Garden

The sweltering heat has really gotten to me the past week. It had seemed to leave for a few weeks and it was pleasant enough to get out and do things. Even though there has been plenty enough inside to finish, with the heat its too hot inside to get into too much also. (No Central Air Conditioning...UGH!!)

I was afraid the garden would suffer, but to my surprise it is still ok. The cucumbers have amazed me and I have gotten several refrigerator pickles out of it so far. YUMMY. Only about 3 tomatoes so far, but the sun was not getting to them good enough until Shank and I decided to free them of the wall dad put up at the side. Since doing that we have gotten 2 more and they were delicious. I only hope I can get a few more. The zucchini are beautiful each morning and these flowers they produce are lovely in the early morning. I just love how they curl up so tight. I hope I didn't plant them too late. Zucchini bread will be just that
much more yummy knowing I grew the zucchini myself.

The bell peppers are slow but sure.

And we now have 3.....yes I said 3 watermelons of bigger than bowling ball size! Yahoooo! I guess I spoke too soon on the "what the heck is that" post. But hey I have been known to be wrong once in a while........

Uhhhh....What?
