Some Girl Time

Ok, so it has been a while since my last post. Not that I didn't have anything to say. I am guessing I have been just too busy to stop and take the time to post...yeah that's it. Too busy.

I got the pleasure of going shopping on Black Friday this year. I say pleasure, as I got to go with my sister in law, Kim. I don't think I would have just gone shopping that day on my own. Something I have never done, gone shopping on Black Friday. She invited me to go along with her and some of her scrap booking friends. Kind of a "girly day out" if you will. So I was in like Flinn. Being the mother of a boy, the step mother of a boy and living in a house with 2 men, I seemed to be surrounded by men all the time. I have no girlfriends and the time I used to spend in "girly land" is far and few between anymore since for more than 4 years now. So even though I knew none of the other 5 girls going, and the fact that I was going to have to don a look alike T-shirt with them all...I opted to go along. I mean, what the heck, an adventure is an adventure, you won't know what you are missing unless you have experienced it, and besides...it was going to be a T-Shirt and it was Black. How could I not go, I mean it was my color.

We left about 3 am and got to Kohl's as our first stop by 4 am. I could not believe my eyes when I saw there were no parking spots available..........anywhere. It was unreal. Did I mention I have never done this before? I mean I think I went to something called "Midnight Madness" at a place called Zayre back in the 70's, when I was in my early 20's, and I thought that was a little crazy, but this was just down right nutty. (Hence, why our shirts were labeled "Nuttier Than a Fruitcake") You would have thought I would have gotten some kind of hint by that......But, noooooooo.....

I could go into great detail of the days events, as it was great fun but I think maybe to just highlight a few things will be best.

We walked for what seemed like a couple of miles in the dark going from
Kohl's after we saw the checkout line was the entire length of the store wrapped around in a circle, over to the mall, passing campers along the way from the night before for Best Buy...now there were some nuts!

I ate part of an
Auntie Anne's pretzel stick around 5 am.

We were hungry for lunch at 9:30 am as we witnessed others eating Chinese at the food court.

I stood in the longest line imaginable at the Disney store for the other Fruitcakes

I was on a Fox 59 Live News broadcast around 5:30 am, (cause of our Look alike T-Shirts)(and because we asked to be on)

I said nothing, I was like that of a deer caught in the headlights, when the camera light came on.

Actually, I do remember telling the other
Fruitcake to talk as I was drawing a blank

She rattled on for what seemed like an hour, but it was just a few seconds, while I stood next to her, Smiling (I ONLY HOPE) and sticking out my chest to show off the words on my T-shirt, constantly, just in case the camera man didn't notice it the first time

If that wasn't enough they then asked us all (6) to stick around for an interview for a later broadcast, which we did and I still was frozen, but smiling and holding up my Survival bag, that Kim made for each of us

We shopped and shopped and luckily I never dropped, I managed to keep up with them. (The wonder of pain pills)

One of the girls actually bought a Wii system out of some guy's truck in the parking lot

We later went a little Stir Crazy for lunch

and even later Paid a fortune for Valet service for The Cheesecake Factory, only to eat our Cheesecake in the car

It was great fun I only wish I had remembered to take my camera

But I am thinking for one moment while it was just Kim and me and we needed to go to the restroom like real bad and the women's restroom was full with a never ending line, I remembered just then I had a camera on my cell phone that would be just the trick for me to catch this moment.....

Sorry Kim........

But thanks for a fun day!

(oops...almost forgot... we scored some cool freebies that day too!!)

A Little More Steak, Please?

Ok, this was a different kind of Thanksgiving. Nice, but different. A bunch of things that happened were first time things for me. Brother was nice enough to come get Homie and take him to breakfast. So Shank and I went to Walmart. Yeah it was Open. It was Cool...Nobody was there, we had the whole store to ourselves, 2 firsts...(note to self: make this a tradition ) Like I said it was all so far, Nice, but then I knew it would be up to me to figure out what to feed us for the rest of the day, and I didn't get out the Turkey so I was sweatin it, cause I mean like it is Thanksgiving!
Much to my surprise Homie was ready to eat again before 3pm and said he wanted to go out. Now I have Never went out to eat for Thanksgiving. Not that there is anything wrong with it.
But Shank was having a Narcosleepy moment and so I said, HEY lets go. I was hungry. (nothing new)
So we headed off to Golden Corral. Even though we took the last parking place in the lot (yes it was that crowded) It didn't take too long to go through the double line, but all the while we were in line I kept thinking, how the heck will you ever find a seat? I kept asking Homie (even though he had no idea of what I was saying) Will they stop people from coming in when all the seats are full? Yet No one was at the door keeping people from coming in and believe me, they kept on coming. So I was baffled. I was having a hard time standing in the line and I could not for the life of me figure out how I was going to eat standing up with my dish, my knees were already shot. As far as I could see there were no seats to be had. When we finally got up to the cashier I realized how they were doing it. What an Idiot.
They take your money, then pile you up on the other side of the cashier and tell you to wait for a waiter to come seat you! OHHHHH, Ok.....sure, like that poor waitress didn't have enough to do gettin bread, drinks for all the people already eating, but then clean off the tables and come and figure out where she will seat 2, then 7 , then 4 people and so on. OMG.
But, It didn't really take too long. Whew.
And then I had Steak. Yum. It was good. Another thing I have not had on Thanksgiving. I had Steak and Stuffing and some kind of yummy fried apples. Which all was great. The green stuff I put on my plate that I thought was Kale, turned out to be Turnip Greens....not that there is anything wrong with Turnip Greens..go ahead knock yourselves out.....but these tasted like a wet dirty sock.
(don't ask)
Then I opted to get a Caesar salad as I was not going to wait in the line to get a bunch of vegetables or soup or potatoes. But that might have been a better idea, as the Caesar Salad was missing the Caesar Dressing. HUH? What was up with that? Weird.
SO I went and got another piece of Steak. You know Steak for your Salad, Steak for you main course and Steak for your dessert? Good, but I got too full on Steak. I really didn't want to eat today so I would be able to get into a pair of jeans for tomorrow.
Heck, who was I kidding anyway?
I am.......
NuttieR ThaN a FrUiTcaKe.

Turkey Day

Ok, This was the best funnie I could find through the tons of images that are out there. I liked the one I had last year a lot better, but didn't want to repeat myself. (I do that enough)

Happy Thanksgiving!

A Special Tribute For Uncle Moh

I may be a bit late in posting this but just received it last evening, and wanted to post it in case others reading this may have time to make arrangements to attend.

El-Fatah University where Uncle Moh taught for about 25 or more years is having a Memorial/Tribute in Moh's honor on Monday evening, November 19th.
Uncle Moh was a much respected man there and I am sure it will be heartwarming.

Flower Power

I came across this "Beetle" while catching a pic of the Lady Beetle Bug I posted yesterday. It reminded me of the First Car I ever had. It was a VW Bug and the color was Black. It didn't have the Cool Flowers on it like this one...(but I did have wallpaper in my bedroom with Flowers like this on it...only they were Orange). I absolutely loved it too. Yes I am weird.
I would love to have one again.....
VW Bug ...not the wallpaper.

Lots of Love for Uncle Moh

I started this blog for lots of different reasons but never expected anyone to ever read it but me and Shankie and possibly Sandi...(because she reads everything)
But today I have just been in awe of how many page loads I have for just one day for just one post.

83 to be exact.

For Uncle Moh...to be exact.

I knew when I met Uncle Moh that he was special. I only wish I could have spent a bit more time with him myself. For Shank and all his brothers and sisters who did have a bit more time with Moh, I am forever grateful to have your stories of Moh to keep fresh in my memories.
To all who have visited my post on Uncle Moh, I have to offer my prayers to you all as I know you are all missing one of the best a person could ever have the honor of knowing. I want to say thank you for the condolences and the heartfelt feelings you have left.
Also to all who have visited, please feel free to leave a story or comment, as I and I know we all would love to hear anything you have to say about Uncle Moh.

We all love and miss you, Uncle Moh. God Bless and keep you.

New Weight Loss Idea

I think Lil Bit is going through some real anxiety problems. Now I am not sure if a dog can go through things such as this...but I don't know why not. I know at 15 she thinks she can do what she pleases, when she pleases..but I never thought she would be so loud. I mean for all of 14 years she did not make too much of a sound, other than the obvious, bark when a visitor came by. Our Cocker Spaniel, Lacey made you notice her. Lil Bit did not, until this past year or so. She is a total opposite of any other dog we have had. She is a one of a kind dog. Lately, we find ourselves catering to her every whim...or should I say whine? She will sit and whine for hours...at first we wondered if she was in pain as she is so old...but we quickly found out that after 14 years of being fed a good portion of food Once a day....Once a day was just NOT going to do anymore. She can easily be fed 3 small dishes of food a day and want snacks in between. If she wants it you better give it or you will be bothered by the whining or pacing until you give in. Now the pacing...thats a whole thing in itself. Thats where I wonder if she has some anxiety. I didn't much know about anxiety until Shankie with his heart attack. After which has come with anxiety. And I have seen him do the pacing when it is bothersome. So I am watching Lil Bit and between the hours of about 3pm til 7pm she starts with the pacing. From the kitchen to the bedroom. Back and forth, sometimes she will go into the bedroom, sometimes just stop at the door. Sometimes she will walk around the dining room table and sometimes she will go under it to walk through. No matter how she does it, its always the same pattern, back and forth through those 3 rooms, until you do something with her. Whether you feed her give her a snack or pick her up and put her in your lap. I counted one night..(yeah not much of a life) and stopped at 70 trips of her going back and forth. 70 Trips, wow I thought when will she quit...and I quit before she did. And then I wondered if maybe instead of just sitting and watching her and counting her trips....I should get my fat butt up and walk with her each nite, maybe I could shed a few pounds? Now there's an idea.

Uncle Moh

That's what I call him, and what I have heard Shankie call him for the past 27 years. He lost his battle with Mesothelioma this past week. We have lost a precious soul. He will be missed.

I had the pleasure of meeting Uncle Moh in the early 80's and will always remember that first meeting. I was a newcomer in a large close knit family and had no idea of what to expect in this first meeting of Shankie's brother in law. It was like going to see my best-est friend in the whole world. It was not like meeting a stranger at all. In fact Shankie's whole family have treated me this way since the beginning. I remember staying a weekend with them and Uncle Moh fixing me the most delicious egg omelet I have ever eaten. In fact I remember him and I eating the whole breakfast that morning ourselves while Shankie just drank a pepsi and his sister had coffee. I remember him asking me at each ingredient he started to put into the omelet if I liked it. Well yeah.....nothing I don't like, but I thought it was so considerate of him to ask me. Thats how I remember him as being so considerate. Nothin like food to bring a couple of food lovers together. He treated me just like family. I will never forget him. I did not get to see him much after 84', except for a summer in 86' and I remember him being just as kind then as he was when we first met. Shank tells me stories galore about him and I feel like I know him just as well as he did and will miss him as much.

God Bless his family and God rest his soul.

Long week...........

Finally I am back with a computer. Its been at least a week that my computer "crashed". I honestly never knew what that meant and still wonder if that is what happened...but I am staying with that term as one morning over a week ago it just would not turn on. We tried to fix it ourselves, had Dell try, and then just broke down and took it to a computer guy. I didn't think it would bother me to be without a computer for a week. I mean come on, I did have a life before I had a computer. Didn't I? I did all kinds of things. Didn't I? But for some reason I could not come up with any one of them this past week. I cannot tell you how many times Shankie or I would say, "oh go look it up on the computer", that got real, old real quick, let me tell ya!
I thought no big deal, time to catch up on other things that have taken a back seat, but I just could not get into anything at all other than worry about all my pictures I had stored (and not backed up) yes I am a procrastinator about that. I think I posted on procrastinating once...anyhoo, that's all I could think of, thank goodness they were saved. Most of them anyway.
So I am trying now to get caught up on all my "computer" chores. Now there is something I never thought I would say...I have computer chores. Oh well I do. So just in case anybody missed me...
I'm back! :)
