Memories

We just got a really neat link in an email from Fred and it was just too good to forget. So I am placing it here to remember. (Now, I need to figure out how to back up this file for safekeeping!!) If you were fortunate enough to have lived and sUrViveEd the Sixties, and came to love the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Animals, Herman's Hermits, Chubby Checker, Dick Clark, The Twist and we cannot forget, Elvis....then you need to go here. I am sure most have seen this but I loved it and wanted to share and keep.

Turn up your volume and sit back and relax..it takes a few minutes. Enjoy.

Ice pics

Still the 14th

Well we didn't get all the snow that the northern part got, but we are still "stuck" here. All the wind drifted what snow we did get, and so we could not even (if we tried to) get out of the drive. I was determined to get out in the snow today, even if it killed me. Bad knees and all. So I got all my winter gear on and we had to leave out the front door as the wind drifted snow and ice in front of the back door and we couldn't get it open. I was sure it would be a great picture to share so ventured out with Frank and Elvis with my camera in anticipation. I unfortunately forgot that I am not doing stairs well yet and the front 3 steps are huge and I almost shuttered to think of me flying off the first one as it was covered with about 3 inches of ice and snow on top. But of course Shankie was there to help me and I made it ok. The snow we did get has ice on top of it so we felt for a while like we were walking on top of water(so to speak)...until Frank almost took a nose dive after the snow "broke" with him and he went almost knee deep! SO I got kinda scared to take another step but just grabbed onto Shankie and stepped into his steps. Following are some nice pics, not the great mounds of snow I was hoping for, but they will do.

After it all Shank made me a nice egg omelet, with peppers and onions and cheeses, which I haven't had in ages...(did I just say ages? geez how old am I?) anyhoo, it was excellent. So unless something fun happens, this is my post for the day. I have to go and try to make something for dad, its not only Valentine's day but his 80th birthday as well. I think maybe a pineapple upside down cake? Sounds good to me! Its not chocolate, but it'll do just fine.

SNOW!!!!

Well we have some snow...but not much more than a couple of inches on top of what we got last week. BUMMER! I was hoping to awake with tons of snow at my door! But it was only ice! Yech. I love the snow but can do without the ice. Seems we are on the side of town that is only getting ice. Bummer. I want the snow. Not that I could actually get out in it and slide down the hill or anything but it still would be nice. I love the snow. I can remember sliding down this hill so many times. What fun we had.

And the ice is pulling down the pine trees. Lots of branches are breaking off and there are limbs everywhere due to the wind and the ice. Frank tried to get out and move some of them but they were just too heavy with all the ice on them. It is still sleeting and is supposed to for a while yet. I just am wishing for some snow...I love the snow. SO COME ON...............SNOW!

please :)

One Year Later

One year ago, yesterday, Frank had his heart attack. This was right up there as one of the worst days of my life, and I am sure one of his. I thought about it all day yesterday, especially around 2 or 3 in the afternoon when he had a sharp chest pain. Although it only lasted less than a minute, it still bothered me quite a bit. I want to shout out to the heaven's YIPPEE we made it a year! But don't want to count my chickens before they are hatched. I know very little about Heart disease and heart attacks and bypass surgeries and stents and just about anything to do with the heart. I feel I know more about cancer than I want to, just because of mom. I remember she was happy to have made it to the 5 year mark, after that first bout in 1974. So to get to a year mark after a heart attack, I feel is a good thing. Although I really do not know the facts of time for that. Like I said I know nothing about heart disease, I have, however, this year come to know more than I wanted to know. I did not know Frank got a drug inducing stent and the problems that come with that. I did not know that was the reason he has to take Plavix the rest of his life because of that stent. I thought the stent literally saved his life. I didn't know that because he has one now he will have to walk on pins and needles each day wondering if that alone will be his demise. Now I know you do not have to live your life each day wondering if it will be your last and worrying about such things as this, but these are things we are reading about now, after the fact, and well....we are human.

I did not post yesterday, as I wanted to wait til it was over, so to speak. Even though the 9th was the day he had his heart attack. Today actually is the day he received his stent and we understood just what all was going on in his heart. And thank God that Fred was there with me to go through that. I will never forget what all happened that week, with all the scary moments we had leading up to the heart attack, and the actual day. I am glad that we have made it a year. I was glad at 6 months as we were told if the stent would collapse it would collapse in 6 months. But the year marks more of a better outlook for me. I know we have to watch several things still, but mostly I am glad we are here, And will anxiously await to see what else life has in store for us.

So.........................Yippee, we made it!

Nuts

Went to Sam's yesterday. Wanted to get some more of the delicious oranges we got a couple of weeks ago. Of course that was all we went for. Just one of those road trips we take when we have to get out of the house. For some reason my right knee decided not to cooperate about as soon as I got into the store. And as anyone who goes to Sam's knows the oranges are at the BACK of the warehouse. But I managed ok and was hoping for some sample goodies the ladies were passing out. OF COURSE though I must have had the sign on my chest that said "DO NOT FEED" cause not one of them asked me if I wanted a taste. And Frank made sure to go by them each twice! We were just having some fun though, passing the time. We decided to leave but I had to use the restroom...halfway back up to the front I HAD to sit. We made our way to the office supplies and Frank pulled out an office chair for me to "try out" for a minute while I got my "legs" back. In a minute or two we made our way up to the restroom..as usual Frank stood outside and said he would hold the cart and wait on me. Well it seems some lady came out as I went in and accused Frank of having her cart. He politely told her it was his cart as he got it when we arrived and it had our oranges in it. She didn't believe him and told him again it was her cart and she left it on the other side where he was standing. Frank said again he did not take her cart. I guess she yelled at him a few more times before getting another cart that was close by and making sure to let him know yet again that she left her cart right there and he took it...I guess he just about had enough at that point and told her in a much louder voice..."LADY I DID NOT TAKE YOUR &%%$#*&&^!! CART".

nut.

What you do after another lousy day

Did somebody say Truffles?

Ok so its been a while since I wrote about food. So this post is about food. I am having a rotten day. You know one of those days where it seems that as soon as your feet hit the floor nothing goes right? That's the one I am having today. Didn't get to the bathroom fast enough (no not that!!!! just to get showered and dressed!!) That was just the first of a bunch of things that didn't go my way. (Don't want this to be a rant post again, so that all for now) I had to go get some prescriptions filled and decided on my way that I would try the Walmart new prescription thingy where you can get some filled for just $4. My sister-in-law told me about that and so I thought HEY WHY NOT? Of course it seems that NONE of the medicines I take qualify for the $4 thingy...of course! But Frank told the lady to go ahead and fill the sucker and then of course she said it would be about 40 minutes! OK so what to do in Walmart for 40 minutes? Especially when you told yourself you had no more money to spend this week..except for the all important prescription medicine. So we did the usual, walk around until my knees decided they were going to lock up and Frank would make me a seat wherever I was at...don't ask. I even tried on shoes again, so not to look goofy just sitting for no reason on that little trying on shoe seat. Oh and these were real cute too kinda moccasin types shoes, but of course they were like being barefoot for me and thats a big no no...of course. Ok where was I? Oh yeah, we made our way to the FOOD section, and so not to spend money I didn't have, decided to not go around each aisle. Instead went directly to the bread and bananas as that, along with my prescription, was all I was planning to get. Then Frank asks what we were having for dinner tonite and my response was...well heck I can't even remember. Then he tells me that wouldn't it be nice to get one of those big loaves of french bread and a couple different types of lunch meats and go home and make our own sub for lunch? Well sure! You don't have to ask me twice when it comes to bread. Or any kind of food for that matter. So we got some good stuff and went back to the pharmacy to get my prescription. There was a guy in line and I decided to take a sit as my knees were done in for. I no sooner got sat down than 3 more people were in line. Frank said he would wait in line for me. Too sweet. But the people just kept coming and I noticed one lady had already played on Frank's kind heartedness and got in front of him, and there were 2 more trying. As he inched up towards the counter...this one lady was doing her best to come in on the side of the line and was evening up her cart to get in front of Frank...as he noticed this too, he eyeballed me to get my butt over there! I did and she didn't like it and let me know so in so many words she kept whispering....Heck it wasn't like we were in line for a ride at Disney World or lunch at Panera's...Frank was simply waiting in line to get my prescription as I was sitting on the sideline. But she didn't seem to see it that way. She was so close to me I could smell the brand of cigarettes she smoked...and I don't smoke. But she was not getting in front of me..bad knees or not I was standing my ground...I had a bad morning Lady, so back off! So needless to say this was all a bit stressful after the morning I had too, and so the sub Frank fixed when we got home was delicious and made my afternoon. The bread was fresh and the meat and cheeses he put on were great and then he added some banana peppers to it and toasted it. Yummy is all I can say.

Now I ate it so fast I could not get a picture of it. You can trust me it looked about as good as it tasted. But what I did get a picture of, was this package of chocolates that we just discovered Monday after eating at Cracker Barrel with my dad. He had a gift certificate he wanted to spend and when we didn't spend it all eating breakfast/lunch we each grabbed some candy there to try to wipe the gift card out. Frank found these individually wrapped chocolate truffles and got 3 of them. WOW is all I can say. The Dark chocolate is Frank's favorite, when you bite into it, it is filled with soft milk chocolate. We thought that was all they had....................until today. After the pharmacy line incident we got into line at the front counters and found these in a package of about 16 or so...(I am not sure as I do not know how many Frank ate) They were just $3.12 and had 3 different flavors. Dark chocolate, Milk chocolate and White chocolate. All with a soft filling inside of milk chocolate. A good deal I thought, so what are you waiting for?

Yes, this package is empty..only one left......I had better make a run for it!
